Dear Friend of Rakestraw Books,
These cold and gray
days seem perfect for reading. After all what could be better than
pulling your chair up to your hearth, a cup of tea (or what pleases you)
just to hand, and a great new book? This month's recommendations come
from our colleagues at great independent bookstores across the country.
All of us here at Rakestraw Books are excitedly putting the finishing
touches on our 2010 Books of the Year. If you have already voted for
your favorite, send us an email at firstname.lastname@example.org as soon as
you can. Simply tell us the best book you read last year. We'll be
announcing our selection as well as the Readers' Choice on this coming
Thursday with a special issue of "Bookpost,"
This month's author
visits are special ones: a near iconic American journalist; a celebrated
artist turned author-illustrator; a bestselling children's writer and
marathon runner; and one of the very best writers of fiction today. It's
a great mix and each one is an excellent reason to leaving that warm
In other news, the
next few weeks will see some major changes to this website. We are
exploring adding e-commerce as well as the ability to purchase e-books
from Rakestraw Books. We will sending out surveys to members of our
various mailing lists asking for your opinions and advice. We may even
host a focus group or two. We think it'll be exciting and productive.
Other updates to the
site made today include announcements for our book groups, Signed First
